Chollipo Arboretum: A Unique Corporate Identity Design

Bringing Traditional Korean Beauty to Life

Chollipo Arboretum, designed by Siwook Oh and Dukyong Kim of Sejong Icon, is a corporate identity design that beautifully captures the essence of this renowned arboretum in Korea.

Chollipo Arboretum is home to an impressive collection of over 15,800 plant varieties, making it the most diverse arboretum in Korea. Located at the western edge of the country, it encompasses plants from both cool and warm temperature zones, creating a unique and rich botanical experience.

The inspiration for the design came from the Korean name of Chollipo Arboretum, which is represented by the consonants 'ㅊㄹㅍ'. In the logo, 'ㅊ' symbolizes a person, 'ㄹ' represents the earth, and 'ㅍ' signifies the sky. The person is depicted alongside a tree, representing the connection between humans and nature. The earth is portrayed as a place where fruits and leaves sprout, while the sky features clouds and birds in flight. The colors yellow, green, and blue are used to symbolize the person, the earth, and the sky respectively, creating a harmonious and visually striking design. The color saturation is intentionally lowered to add a stylistically Korean touch.

What sets this design apart is the use of Korean consonants in the logo. It is not common in Korea to use consonants of Korean letters exclusively in logos, making Chollipo Arboretum's corporate identity design truly unique. By incorporating traditional Korean elements into the design, Siwook Oh and Dukyong Kim have successfully captured the essence of the arboretum's beauty and heritage.

The Chollipo Arboretum corporate identity design, created by Siwook Oh and Dukyong Kim, has received recognition for its excellence. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Graphics, Illustration, and Visual Communication Design category in 2018. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate innovation, practicality, and adherence to professional and industrial standards. The Chollipo Arboretum corporate identity design stands out for its integration of industry best practices and its ability to evoke positive emotions, contributing to a better world.

With its unique design and connection to traditional Korean beauty, the Chollipo Arboretum corporate identity design by Siwook Oh and Dukyong Kim is a testament to the arboretum's rich botanical heritage and serves as a visual representation of its commitment to preserving and celebrating nature.
